Product description
Buffered Sodium Citrate is used in clinical laboratories and blood banks as an effective anti-coagulant, usually in a ratio of 1:9 sodium citrate/blood. The citrate ion chelates calcium ions in the blood by forming calcium citrate complexes and disrupting the blood clotting mechanism.
Medicago’s Buffered Sodium Citrate is supplied at two sizes with pouches giving 100 ml or 1000 ml of 3.2 %, 0.109 M buffered sodium citrate solution.
Applications
- Clinical laboratory procedures
- Anti-coagulant reagent
- Preservation of blood in blood banks
- In venous blood collection tubes
Directions for use
Empty one pouch of the powder in a laboratory flask or beaker placed on a magnetic stirrer. Add 50 ml or 300 ml of deionized water and stir the solution for a few minutes. Adjust the volume up to 100 or 1000 ml, stir and the solution is ready to use.
Shipping and storage
Buffered Sodium Citrate is shipped at room temperature. Store the pouches in a dry place at room temperature. Shelf life is three years after production date. Solutions can be stored at room temperature or at +4°C for two months.
